Thriving HD based Digital Film Making Community in Chennai

I was thrilled to come across a thriving community which is involved in making HD based Digital Film Making in Chennai. This community called HD/HDV Film making is mostly DIY (Do It Yourself) community and the community members are in various stages of releasing feature films using HD technology. Interestingly, the pioneers in the group are not the established film community, which is more or less pessimistic about HD.

The community organizer is Mr. Suresh Menon, who has a established Post Production facility in Chennai. The good thing about Suresh Menon is that he is providing a complete workflow tools and techniques for HD Film Making, right from Shooting to final Reverse Telecine to get the Film rolls.

I have known Mr. Suresh Menon while in Coimbatore. I would be meeting him this week and will give a detailed account of the processes soon.

I had the opportunity to see Bicyle Thief.

It has such tremendous impact on tamil films. Several of the films' sequences have been incorporated in tamil films. Here are some of the sequences I remember :

a. DevarMagan : The Hero identifiies and chases the thief in narrow alley as the guilty thief's body language helps to recognize him.. This sequence was in Devarmagan where Kamal chases the guy who has broken the pond (kamai)..

b. Roja : In Bicycle thief, the Hero quarrels with his son and leaves him alone.. but a little later, he finds a boy had fallen into a lake and people rescuing him. the Hero gets scared and anxious.. but soon finds that it is someother boy.. this scene is repeated in many maniratnam movies.. in Roja for example, heroine is asked to identify a dead body.. She gets anxious and then relieved to find it is somebody else's body..


The film also depicts what poverty can do it ordinary people .. The climax was brilliant.

There was a couple married for quite some time and they had a boy of 5-6 years old. Their relationship was turning sour.

So finally it reached such a stage that they thought it was better for them to be divorced than carry on such a relationship.
So they consulted a lawyer. But the big question was who would have the kid.

In the hearing in the court; it was decided that this choice should be left on the kid.

So the judge asked "Son would you like to stay with your mummy?"

Kid said, "No, mummy beats me."

So the judge asked "Then, would you like to stay with your papa then?

Kid said, "No, papa beats me."

Now the judge was in a dilemma and was not able to decide what to do... after pondering for some time he smiled with the ideas he had in his mind about the child......

And he gave the judgment that the kid would stay with......
